CREATE and Habitat for Humanity ReStore have teamed up to do a monthly Ladies Night! The ReStore is an extension of Habitat for Humanity in the form of a discount retail store with one hundred percent of net proceeds going directly to improve the quality of life for families in the Omaha community. At the ReStore, you can find everything from flooring to light fixtures, furniture to eco-friendly paint. All the items have been donated from members of the community or salvaged to be repurposed. That’s where CREATE comes in! Our passion for turning trash into treasure fits perfectly with the goals of the ReStore.
Last week we gathered at the ReStore on 108th and Maple for our first Ladies Night! We had a blast! Our project was to turn an old cabinet door into a gorgeous piece of art. Each participant selected what words they wanted when they registered for the class and we got everything cut out beforehand. After a snack of wine and cheese, the fun really began! Everyone chose a few different colors for their doors; one to be the under color and one to be the top coat. Using both paints, a bar of soap, and lots of sandpaper, the cabinet cast-offs became vintage looking backgrounds for the artwork.
Next, we decoupaged the precut card stock words to the backgrounds and voila! A wonderful, treasured keepsake was created in an evening. This wonderful evening wouldn’t have been been possible without our friend, Jessica Duce of J. Duce Design, who introduced us to the friendly staff of the ReStore. Check out Jessica’s blog to see a few more pictures of the event!
If you missed the first Ladies Night with CREATE and ReStore, you have a chance to sign up for future classes. Our next event will be on Thursday, November 15th. You can sign up through the ReStore website. We are working hard on finishing up the project and will post pictures ASAP!
