Oh What Fun it is to Teach!

Summer camps started this week and I couldn't be having more fun! I have three awesome girls making jewelry with me all week in Bangles and Baubles Camp. Lillian, Isabella, and Caprice have been spicing up the store with their giggles, jokes and smiles- not to mention their amazing jewelry creations.

On the first night of camp, I showed the girls all the tools used for making jewelry. It was so fun to show them the right way to hold the pliers and watch them squeal every time they successfully opened a jumpring! After a good dosage of sugar and a few games, they got to play around with polymer clay and made beads and pendants that, I'm sure, are going to turn into awesome jewelry later this week.

Yesterday was a little more challenging; I taught the girls how to make earrings and rings. After much practice (and a little bit of cheating) they all had 2-3 sets of earrings that they were very excited to wear. I admit that, after the time it took to make the earrings, I was a little worried that we wouldn't get to finish making our rings. But BOY was I wrong! Once the girls got to ditch their pliers and wrap wire by hand, they were naturals! I can't tell you how impressed I was by the rings these girls made. Seriously, I would wear these! They are looking forward to Friday when they get to spend the whole day making whatever they want. Lilly and Bella even picked out beads to "hide" for that day so they could make more rings without anyone using their favorite beads first.

Probably my favorite part of camp is when the parents come to pick up the kids (NO- don't think I'm saying I like to see them go! LOL). It's because they run out to show their parents all the cool stuff they made! It's hard to describe the joy it gives me when I see kids beaming with pride in the artwork that THEY made ALL BY THEMSELVES! To know that I was there to guide them along the way just makes it even more satisfying. To top it all off, I even got a hug last night from one of my campers :') I can't wait for the next session (we're going to make bracelets and necklaces tomorrow) so I can see Lilly, Bella, and Caprice impress themselves and each other with the awesome jewelry they're sure to make!
